The volumes in this set deal with the history, society and culture of Kashmir Valley in ancient, medieval and modern periods. They depict its developments under several rulers, Hindus, Muslims, Afghans, Sikhs and Dogra. The valley indeed is very attractive in many ways and tourist from Asian and European countries show deep interest in its romantic setting. Several Himalayan ranges, lakes, rivers, springs, temples, mosques, churches, snowy peaks, fruits and simple life of the people in the rural areas speak of its richness in beauty.

The political and administrative history has been combined with trade and commerce, agriculture, flora and fauna, societal awareness, romantic glaciers, role of the National Conference under the leadership of Sheikh Abdullah, Kashmir problem in UNO and role of India and Pakistan in this regard. These volumes would be useful for teachers, scholars, students and Indian and foreign tourists.

Dr. S.R Bakshi, Ph.D. D.Litt in Modern Indian History has academic links with various institutions, viz. Punjab, Saugar, Himachal Pradesh, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, Indian Institute of Public Administration, and last but not the least, Indian Council of Historical Research. He was the first scholar to be awarded D.Litt Degree on the Gandhian movement by the Saugar University.

Dr. Bakshi is the author of several works on Indian nationalism and freedom movement.
