SIVA SUTRAS – THE SUPREME AWAKENING BY SWAMI LAKSMANJOO

This book, Siva Sutras: The Supreme Awakening is revealed by the twentieth century’s great philosopher saint Swami Lakshmanjoo. This spiritual treasure, gifted by God to the sage Vasugupta for the upliftment of humankind, is considered to be one of Kashmir Shaivism’s most important scriptures. Here, Swami Lakshmanjoo gives the reader a penetrating vision of the glorious journey of the Supreme Awakening; the traveling from limited individuality to absolute oneness with God. This secret teaching, contained with these pages, is revealed by Swami Lakshmanjoo for the first time. Drawing on his own experience Swami Lakshmanjoo, basing his rendering on the esoteric commentary of Abhinavagupta’s chief disciple Kshemaraja, shows us the way home.
Swami Lakshmanjoo was born in Srinagar, Kashmir on May 09, 1907. He was the last and the greatest of the saints and masters of the traditions of Kashmir Shaivism. Having a deep understanding of the philosophy and practices of Kashmir Shaivism, he was like a splendid and rare jewel. Beginning from childhood he spent his whole life studying and practicing the teachings of this unique sacred tradition. Because of his intellectual power and strength of awareness, he realized both spiritually and intellectually the reality of its thought.

MY KASHMIR DIARY BY S.L. PANDIT

My Kashmir Diary is a collection of essays and miscellaneous writings of Prof. S.L Pandit. It is the surviving fruit of nearly four decades of his literary activity; the rest went up in smoke in November, 1990, with the burning and sacking of his house at Srinagar. The author has divided the book it four sections. Section I : ‘Down Memory Lane ‘ is mostly autobiographical with two essays about his association with the Ramakrishna mission. Section II: ‘Kashmir Past & amp; Present’ contains twelve perceptive essays on recent history of Kashmir, the vital question is what is Kashmiriyat, and the present predicament of Kashmir Pandits. Section III: ‘Perceptions of a Dedicated Teacher’ consists of some of the author’s  retrieved research papers on literature and a convocation address that he delivered at Jalandhar after his retirement. Three reviews and two additional essays form. Section IV: ‘ Some Miscellany & Book Reviews’. On the whole, My Kashmir Diary is a comprehensive collection that gives the reader a fair idea of the author’s keen interest in history, literature and society, and reveals his flair for writing and sharing his thoughts with others.

LINGUISTIC TRADITIONS OF KASHMIR – ESSAYS IN MEMORY OF PANDIT DINANATH YAKSH EDITED BY MRINAL KAUL AND ASHOK AKLUJKAR

The present volume consists of original research papers. It is not a collection or anthology in which specialists of the different aspects of Kashmirian use or study of languages were invited to the write essays surveying the aspects best known to them or to produce state of the art reports about the scholarly study of the aspects. An effort, however, has been made in the introduction to provide the general background that a reader may need in order to situate the papers in the proper intellectual and historical context. The introduction further outlines the themes that could and should be particulataly explored to lead us to a fuller and sharper understanding of Kashmir’s analytical engagement with language. The appendices toward the end of the volume then complement the introduction by presenting objective and practical information about the manuscripts etc of works in Sanskrit.
The volume could connect the results of the work done in the past with the work to be done in the future by adding to the knowledge in the present because of the articles it attracted from veteran as well as upcoming researchers. The reader will find here discussions bearing upon the authors of texts; discussions devoted to elucidating single passages, as well as discussions exploring instances of intertextuality; and discussions exclusively addressing individual grammars, as well as discussions engaging in the relation of one grammatical school with another.
Mrinal Kaul earned his M.A. degree in Sanskrit from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and M. St. degree in Oriental Studies (Classical Indology) from the University of Oxford. He also studied Indian Logic and  Manuscriptology in the University of Pune. He maintains his interest in Indian Philosophical literatures and Kashmirian Saiva schools.

Ashok Aklujkar received his M.A. degree in Sanskrit and Pali from the University of Poona and his Ph.d degree in Sanskrit and Indian Studies from Harvard University. He taught courses in Sanskrit language and in the related mythological and philosophical literatures (occasionally also in Indian belles letters in general) at the University of British Columbia from 1969 to 2006. His published research is mostly in areas of Sanskrit linguistic tradition and poetics. Advanced students have worked under his guidance in the areas of Buddhist and Brahmanical philosophy, religion and mythology.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE PHILOSOPHY OF TRIKA SAIVISM BY MOTI LAL PANDIT

The aim of this book is basically to introduce the reader to the fundamental principles that Trika philosophers have enunciated in their philosophical – cum-theological treatises. Such an approach has been adopted deliberately on account of the fact that Trika system of thought, which is very rich in philosophical vocabulary, is hardly known to general public in the manner of Advaita Vedanta of Samkara.
Although non- dualistic in orientation, yet it differs radically from the monism of Samkara with regard to the nature of the Absolute and the world. The Trika philosophy rejects the Vedantic view of the Absolute as being inactive. Instead of an inactive Absolute, it thinks of the Absolute theistically, and so speaks of Paramasiva as being both consciousness and reflective awareness. As such the Absolute of Trika is equated with the absolute freedom, and so the school also is referred to as being that of Freedom. In so far as the status of the world is concerned, the Trika thinks of it as being extension/emission/reflection of Paramasiva and so is considered to be real. It means that the world, even though a reflection of Paramasiva, is actually Siva itself.
From these main differences it can be discerned that the Trika absolutism is radically different from the one that Samkara has adumbrated. It is hoped that the reader upon reading the book will be able to have the grasp of the main philosophical principles that the Trika has enunciated and developed.
Moti Lal Pandit, trained as a theologian and linguist, has been engaged for last three decades in such dialogic research as would disseminate knowledge concerning the essence of such forms of spirituality as has been enunciated by such major religions as Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity.

SAIVA PHILOSOPHY OF KASHMIR BY S.N KAUL

Shamboo Nath kaul was the eldest son of the great educationist, Late Pt. Shivajee Kaul Gassi. During his lifetime, he came in contact with number if great saints and sages who blessed him to attain spiritual enlightenment. A true karamyogi and Bhairava upasaka with consciousness assuming a self effacing personality, well read and surprised educated people by the shear breath of his knowledge; his immense fortitude, inner strength and nobility of spirit, love, passion is worth of emulation. He received inspiration to write this book from the late Ishwarswaroop Swami Lakshmanjoo in order to express his devotion and dedication towards him.
The goal and purpose in writing this book is to highlight, in the midst of diversity, the essential unity that seems to be constitutive of such religions that have an orientation that is deeply mystical. Basing himself on the absolutistic metaphysical thought of Kashmir Saivism, the author thereby has attempted to interpret spirituality in such universal terms as would enable one to discover the principle of unity of being among the spiritualities of all major religions. Thus the aim of the book is so noble as to allow the reader to have the vision of unity in the midst of diversity.
