The present book is the manifestation of inundating currents of ferocious magnitude ebbing in my own psyche. I have not chronicled the history of atrocities meted out to Pandits, neither did I enumerate the gruesome killings of the people of my community at the hands of terrorists.
My tales allude to circumstances of distinct nature, some strange, others intriguing. These stories are an attempt to depict how terrorism affected and influenced all of us, one or the other way
The last two stories were written for my own children, almost bragging about with my siblings, which they have been deprived of.
My stories depict a celebration of life- a continuation of like. We are the children of legendary eleven families who tenaciously refused to accept anything, other than battagi (being a Kashmiri Pandit). I have an uncanny belief: the tyranny of bigots will abate; the contempt and conceit will end sometime, somewhere. The bruised and pulped up battagi will come out of the debris of ruined mansions, peep out of the heaped up rubble and stand erect again. Hence, “We were and we will be.”
Parineeta Khar nee Zutshi was brought up in an extended family where joys and sorrows, even the illness and career of a child was a shared affair. Although she is a science graduate, the penchant for English literature stood in her stead. She came out with honors in English literature. She further accomplished the same subject at the Kashmir University, Srinagar in 1976.
Her restless existence had no time to grow as she got married during her university days. Her husband’s career tossed her on to the far off lanes in Paris.
With the peal rush of motherhood abating the demand for her other roles getting fulfilled- she had time to reminisce. The stored up memories gushed out in a deluge. She started writing short stories for local newspaper. Her first book on The Shores of the Vitasta was  published by the Writer’s Workshop Calcutta in 1994.
Parineeta lives with her family in Hyderabad for last twenty- five years.  As a part time teacher, she teaches English Literature at high school level.
